I would say it was less about the colour on the eyes, and more about the shape and the impact. For example, at Cushnie et Ochs we did a winged cat eye that was really dramatic. It felt like Cleopatra going to the Hamptons. She’s rich, but there is rebelliousness within her.
Having said that, you’re aslo still going to see colours. In Peter Som, we used a bright acid orange in the inner corner of the eyes, but women at home can achieve the same look using the Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick, one of the vivids. Instead of just putting it on by itself, add some transluscent powder to it, during the day, otherwise, it will move around. With the powder, it will stay in its place and stay a little longer.
Could you give us some tips for the eyeliner?
Master Precise is the most amazing product to use for that. The precision is amazing and it does the work for you. A lot of people are intimidated to do graphic eyes but with a product like this, it becomes easy.
Tip: No one will get a perfect wing the first time around. But what I do is that I start on the outside of the eye, and go inwards. I make the wing first, then go to the middle of the eye, stop there, and go to the inner corner and have the lines meet. Instead of doing one line, you could do little lines, and then you connect the dots. It’s easy this way. You can only perfect it with practice.
What’s a mistake you see every woman making?
The biggest mistake is not to try new things. We become so comfortable with our routine that we become creatures of habit, and we tend to stay within the safety zone. Don’t be afraid to explore and try new colours or new trends or something different: You would be surprised.
