Philippe Lacoste About His Grandfather
October 18, 2007

Lacoste is no longer just a clothing line for tennis or golf players, but it’s now a complete collection that even includes shoes, bags and perfumes.

Hayat Ammouri met with Philippe Lacoste, the legendary “alligator” and Lacoste Founder’s grandson. Charming Philippe spoke about his grandfather, the history of the company, their ultimate success with young customers and their future plans.
What do you remember about your grandfather?
What I really remember is the very strong family spirit, even when he was 90 years old. My grandparents also kept their love through the years, even after 60 years of marriage, they would still give each other tender kisses. They had a lot of love for each others and for the other members of the family.

What did you take from him? Do you have the same personality?
No, I am a much easier going man than him. My wife wouldn’t agree to that, but really, I am.

What does the crocodile or the alligator represent to you?
It’s our family’s “mascotte”, but above all, I think it’s a sweet animal, a sweet alligator, who brings back good memories. I love this crocodile.

What is your own nickname then?

He asks, what is my nickname?
Oh, we can’t really say!!
